    ARTIST: ROD RUTH (1912-1987)
    Description:
This is an original vintage travel poster published by Greyhound Lines to promote travel to the beautiful coastal regions via their buses/motor coaches. Depicted in this poster is an ocean scene with a lighthouse in the background whilst a fisherman is sitting on a dock fishing.
Greyhound Lines, Inc., usually shortened to Greyhound, is an intercity bus common carrier serving over 3,800 destinations across North America. The company's first route began in Hibbing, Minnesota in 1914, and the company adopted the name The Greyhound Corporation in 1929.
    Artist:
    Rod Ruth, American, 1912-1987
Working name of American artist Rodney Ruth. After growing up in a rustic area near Lake Michigan, which inspired a lifelong devotion to nature, Ruth moved to Chicago to receive artistic training at the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts, the Frederick Mizen School of Arts, and the Institute of Design. Some freelance work eventually led to regular employment as a staff artist for the Chicago-based Ziff-Davis magazines, which included the science fiction (sf) magazines Amazing Stories and Fantastic Adventures.
While doing these sf illustrations, Ruth had already begun moving into other areas – advertising, illustrating children's books, and drawing of comic strips. In 1950, Ruth abandoned sf art to focus on wildlife illustration, for which he won several awards, and he also continued to illustrate numerous children's books, usually involving animals.
