    MATERIAL: Deer HORN, OX BONE
    ORIGIN: EUROPE

    This is a unique horn needle case with a very beautiful and tiny detailed figural Ox bone top made in the mid 1800s. The top opens by pull, bringing the attached cord upward. Pulling the cord closes the case and brings a red inner cloth with it. Needles fit inside and cushioned by the cloth. A very clever design and beautifully crafted. There is a similar piece pictured on page 142 in "Antique Needlework Tools and Embroideries" by Nyrella Taunton.
